Second inmate who fled Contra Costa County jail apprehended
PLEASANT HILL — A man who escaped a Contra Costa County jail earlier this month was found early Thursday inside a car moving in a hotel parking lot, police said.
Jorge Garcia-Escamillia had been missing since getting away from the Marsh Creek Detention Facility on Sept. 4. The jail on Marsh Creek Road in unincorporated Contra Costa County is minimum security and for those with low-level charges.
Escaping the facility is a felony that could result in a sentence to be served in a state prison.
Police said they identified Garcia-Escamillia through fingerprints after he refused to give them his name. Officers spotted the car about 1 a.m. and stopped it because it didn’t have license plates. They did not specify the hotel or who was driving early Thursday.
The car had six pounds of marijuana, multiple shaved keys, and narcotics paraphernalia, according to police. Another person was in the car, but police did not say immediately whether that person was arrested.
Garcia-Escamillia escaped with another inmate. Police arrested that man in Vallejo on Sept. 8 in Vallejo.
