Hi Fellow MGC Members
Welcome to another Month at MGC. For those of you that remember Dallas (Ewing Family) well Dallas has nothing on MGC – never a dull moment!!
Spring has sprung and I’m sure we all look forward to Spring. Our course is looking extremely beautiful with flowers everywhere especially along the right side of 11 and 12th fairways. Don’t forget the reason you play golf – it’s to be with your friends & family and enjoy their company. Hitting that little ball is just an excuse to do so. If you hit a bad shot or two, remember it is not the end of the world. There are thousands of people who would love to be in your position and be able to hit a few bad shots. Be nice to each other out there on the course. Spring also brings its challenges with the heat and wind which burns up our course very quickly. With our water problems as reported last month our main supply of water from Potsdam has not improved
Our Captain, Colin Jacobs, is still on leave of absence due to the illness of his Wife for which we wish a speedy and full recovery.
It’s quite disturbing at the number of our friends that are suffering from illnesses that we are none the wiser to.
We are still waiting for the Permit for us to demolish the burnt building. Immediately upon receipt, this will happen.
Re: upgrade of the road
We have completed the adjudication of the 3 quotations received and we are now in a position to place an order to the chosen contractor the upgrade of the Road will commence soon.
Our Kitchen has undergone a revamp. New flooring and a new Pizza oven have been installed. Pizza oven is now in operation. Enjoy your pizza
Our Ladies hosted the Open Day on the 22 September and it was reported that it was a very successful day but the weatherman was unfair and gave some rain for the last few holes. They had a gala evening to finish off the day. It was reported that the Kitchen staff produced a great meal that was enjoyed by all.
The Driving Range has been taken over by Loots Golf & Tours. They commenced at the beginning of September. Arno reported that it has been well received and some Golf Lessons Booked. We are privileged to have them on board and we request your continued support for them. Spread the News!!
Milnerton Golf Club Driving Range is open to the public!!

“Bunkers are frustrating places to visit, but by following the correct rules and etiquette, golfers can help themselves and others escape and boost their own standing amongst fellow members and playing partners as a considerate player”.
There are three main standards players are expected to follow :
- Play by the rules and act with integrity
- Be considerate to other players
- Take good care of the course
After much pleading and requesting for our bunkers to be raked – repeatedly they are not. Perhaps the above will be some food for thought!!

Monthly Golf Fixtures & Results
Lady Captain’s Corner
Jo Elves is the winner of this trophy in 2022. It’s encouraging as Jo recently celebrated her 80th birthday.
Congratulations Jo on these great achievements.
Mixed Competition
The men’s Tuesday school and the ladies had their first combined competition on the 13th September, followed by a light meal afterwards. This was great fun and are planning to have more ‘mixed’ events. Thanks Judy Teixeira & Gavin Scott for putting it together and David Du for organizing the meal.
We had a tie for 1st place on a score of 70:
- Ntsoti Morojele & David Du
- Marie Junger & Rene Hornebo
Congratulations & well played.
The Bronzies played their last matches at home against Atlantic Beach on 20 September. Unfortunately we won one & lost 2 matches. We haven’t had a good year but I’m hopeful we’ll come back strong next year.

Golf Course Report
Dear Millies,
It’s an ongoing challenge with the golf course and although the course can always be improved upon, we still have a fun and challenging course to play that’s generally in great condition.
October month will see the course going through holotining on the 3rd, 4th and 5th. Then we will have the ‘growing’ season upon us so the improvements can continue.
In the meantime, PLEASE rake the bunkers, fill in your divots and repair your pitch marks. Don’t rely on others to do it for you.
Yours in Golf.
Garreth Johnston

We would like to say goodbye to our head chef Paul Nienaber who has been with us from 2020. He had spread his wings, and we wish him all the best in his career.
