Government of Pakistan Twitter account withheld in India

The Twitter account of the Government of Pakistan has been withheld in India. According to the information now displayed on the blocked account’s page, the action was taken “in response to a legal demand.” However, the specifics of the legal demand that led to the move are unclear.

An account on Twitter is eligible to be withheld if it does not comply with local laws. The microblogging platform withholds content posted by the concerned account on receiving legal orders.

“In our continuing effort to make our services available to people everywhere, if we receive a valid and properly scoped request from an authorised entity, it may be necessary to withhold access to certain content in a particular country from time to time. Such withholdings will be limited to the specific jurisdiction that has issued the valid legal demand or where the content has been found to violate local law(s),” a Twitter spokesperson was quoted as saying in an Economic Times report.
