O’s Beat The Yankees 2-1

0

Friday’s 2-1 win over the New York Yankees was the Baltimore Orioles 81st of the season, assuring the team a .500 record at the very least. It also kept the team’s playoff hopes alive.

A quality start by Jordan Lyles (12-11) was the key to victory. Lyles pitched 7.0 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits while walking just 1 and striking out 9. He did surrender a homerun but it was not the homerun the fans had come to see; Oswaldo Cabrera homered in the 5th inning.

The Orioles opened the game with a run off the bat of Ryan Mountcastle (1 for 4, 1 RBI) in the first inning; Mountcastle’s RBI single allowed Cedric Mullins (0 for 3, 1 Run Scored, 2 BB, 2 SB) to score.

Baltimore countered Cabrera’s homerun in the sixth when they loaded the bases via three walks. A wild pitch by former Oriole Zack Britton allowed Adley Rutschman (0 for 4, 1 Run Scored, 1 BB) to score the eventual winning run.

Britton left the game with “left arm fatigue” after the wild pitch, having faced just one batter.

Gunnar Henderson went 1 for 3 with a walk and Austin Hays went 1 for 3 with a walk as well.

DL Hall earned his first save of the year by striking out 2 for the 3 batters he faced in the ninth inning.

Seattle’s 2-1 win over the A’s officially eliminated the Orioles from playoff contention a few hours after the game in the Bronx ended.
