DPI Farewell: Part 8, A Mixed Bag, The First Test, The PLM Winners & Volvo!
Cadillac, The Beginning
Jordan Taylor posted this extraordinary video of the very first tests with the Cadillac DPi V.R at the car was shaken down and put through its first track tests in 2016 at Putnam Park, Charlotte Motor Speedway and in the Indianapolis simulator.
Volvo, The DPi That Never Was!
2016 and 2017 saw significant industry interest in the DPi formula with projects from Alfa Romeo, Bentley, Hyundai, McLaren, Mercedes AMG and others that reached a variety of stages of evaluation (this writer has seen the styling proposal for the Bentley and the project progressed too to an engine test mule using a Ginetta LMP3 chassis before being pulled).
In that context, and true to DSC’s traditional lighter ‘take’ on things in our sport, April 1 2017 saw us collaborate with designer Daniel Hounsell to present to the world the styling proposal for the Volvo DPi.
It caused quite a stir, the news reported as fact on the following weekend’s IMSA broadcast at Long Beach and another reporter apparently also taken in to such a degree that they felt it necessary to say on social media that they would never publish an April fools story without first making it clear that it was a joke!
Our readers loved it!
DPIs And Their Predecessors, Andy Blackmore’s Petit Le Mans Winners Spotter Guide
Andy Blackmore has produced two sets of extraordinary artwork for the 25th Anniversary Petit Le Mans
The first are these large scale trackside banners featuring every winner of Petit Le Mans since the inaugural race in 1998.
The second sees that same artwork incorporated into an additional Spotter Guide, added to the regular event guided available, as always, either in printed form at the circuit or to download from Andy’s website here.
