Moment have-a-go hero stops ‘mobile phone thief’ in his tracks with huge rugby tackle before woman applies choke hold
THIS is the moment a brave have-a-go hero floored an alleged mobile phone thief in his tracks with a huge rugby tackle.
A heroic woman then helps and applies a choke hold on the suspect to stop him getting away.
Footage posted on social media shows an unidentified person running along St Thomas Street, near Borough Market, in London on Thursday at 3.17pm.
The suspect, who is wearing black clothing, including a baseball cap and a surgical mask covering his face, is taken on by passers-by.
As the footage continues, shouts of “trip him up” can be heard and then suddenly a bystander steps off the pavement and rugby tackles the alleged thief, knocking them into barriers along the street.
A brave woman is then seen applying a choke hold to stop the person fleeing and the suspect can be heard screaming: “Please my neck, my neck. Let me sit up. I can’t breathe.”

Another man can be seen trying to calm the suspect as other onlookers ask what is going on.
A number of witnesses can be heard saying “call the police”, while one says: “Rob people and that’s what happens.”
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Police were called to St Thomas Street, SE1 on 29 September at 15.17hrs to reports of a robbery.
“It was reported that a woman had her phone stolen by a male who was then detained by members of the public.

“When officers arrived a short time later, the male and members of the public had left the scene.
“The phone had been recovered and was back in the woman’s possession.
“There have been no arrests. Enquiries continue.”
