India has rightful claims for a seat at the global high table. It also favours moving towards a multipolar world. Both require India to recalibrate its often binary view of the world and work the current geopolitical situation to its advantage rather than on legacy camp loyalty. Leadership in a multipolar world requires considering trade-offs and taking stands. In failing to keep this alone as a policy GPS, India runs the risk of navel-gazing, and that, too, not its own.
