Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury News & East Bay Times) girls athlete of the week poll.
For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.
This week, we consider performances from Oct. 3-8.
Vote as many times as you’d like until then.

Winners are announced each Friday online and in the print edition of the Mercury News and East Bay Times sports sections.

We accept nominations until 11 a.m. each Monday.
We also review stats submitted to MaxPreps by coaches/team statisticians.

Ellie Buckley, Campolindo cross country: A week after finishing first at the three-mile event at the Diablo Valley Athletic league center meet, Buckley finished first with a 5:01.7 time at the Mid-Season Mania 1600m Invitational.
Vanessa Calvillo, Santa Clara volleyball: The senior libero had a pair of solid games for the Bruins. She had a combined three aces, 20 digs and 33 receptions against Wilcox and Homestead.
Erin Curtis, St. Francis volleyball: The junior outside hitter was part of another perfect week for the Lancers, who now stand at 24-0. Curtis was integral to both wins over number-two Archbishop Mitty, including a 2-0 victory in the Stockton Classic final. Curtis had 56 kills, and only one error in 52 serving receptions.
Jordyn Davies, Heritage water polo: The Patriots senior not only scored a goal against Tamalpais but also handed out five assists and grabbed five steals in the team’s 12-5 win. Davis now has 16 goals and 22 assists this season.
Sonny Guilbadoulline, Terra Nova water polo: Guilbadoulline was a prolific scorer last week, getting 11 goals past the keeper in a pair of Terra Nova wins. She scored seven of her team’s goals in a 14-10 win against Hillsdale.
Serenity Hay, McClymonds volleyball: Thanks in large part to Hay’s contributions, the Warriors went 3-0 last week. Hay totaled 18 kills, 21 assists, six digs and a whopping 10 blocks against schools like Fremont-Oakland and Life Academy.
Natalie McCarroll, Leigh water polo: McCarroll could not be stopped last week, scoring 21 goals in five games. She also had 16 assists and 18 steals. She scored seven goals against Willow Glen on Wednesday.
Andisheh Turner, Mountain View volleyball: Mountain View’s senior setter impressed across six matches last week, where the team went 4-2 across that stretch. Turner had 111 assists, 19 kills, eight aces, and 45 digs.
Charlotte Weber, Sacred Heart Prep tennis: The dominant singles player went 3-0 last week. Weber won her first match 6-1 and 6-2, her second 6-0 and 6-1, and her third 6-1 and 6-2.
Lola Whalen, Encinal water polo: The Jets goalkeeper was credited with two wins against Washington and Castro Valley. In her game against Castro Valley, Whalen saved nine shots and allowed only three goals in the 13-3 win.
