Teen critical after shooting near Franklin Park

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- A teenage girl is in critical condition after a shooting near Franklin Park in Columbus Monday afternoon.

According to Columbus police, officers responded to a ShotSpotter call at approximately 3:20 p.m. in the 1700 block of East Broad Street.

Columbus police Assistant Chief LaShanna Potts said the shooting started as a fight among several groups of girls. Police are trying to determine if there was one or multiple shooters.

The girl was taken to Nationwide Children's Hospital.

Potts is once again urging people to put the guns down, saying this is another incident of someone bringing gunfire to a fistfight.

"Unfortunately, again, we're standing here talking about gun violence where someone can potentially lose their life," she said. "Don't have to reach for a gun every time there's an altercation."
