Volleyball 

The Spires went 1-0 this past week beating a McPherson team that was undefeated in the KCAC this year, their record is now 12-10 overall and 2-2 in the KCAC. They hosted McPherson College on Thursday for their only game of the week. Saint Mary beat the Bulldogs in three sets, two of which went into overtime. The relentless offensive output for the Spires kept McPherson on their heels all night. Keagan Shockley had 11 kills on the night against the Bulldogs, while Emma Prothe had seven service aces in the match. Saint Mary will host Bethany College at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Ryan Sports Center.

Men's Soccer

The men's soccer team went 2-0 this week beating Kansas Wesleyan and Tabor College, the Spires are now 6-3-3 overall and 3-2-2 in conference play. The midweek matchup against the Coyotes ended in a 2-1 win with the first goal from Romario Harding and the game winner from Jose Acosta with just twenty minutes to go. On Saturday, Harding again got the Spires on the board first, and Jonathan Wilson sealed the game for Saint Mary, scoring with only twelve minutes left, giving them a 2-0 victory. Saint Mary will host York University for Homecoming at 8 p.m. on Saturday at Charles J. Berkel Memorial Stadium.

Men's Soccer Holds off Kansas Wesleyan To Win 2-1

Women's Soccer

After a loss on the road and a win in their weekend matchup the women's soccer team is now 2-9-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the KCAC. On Wednesday they traveled to Salina, Kansas for a meeting with Kansas Wesleyan, narrowly losing 1-0. On Saturday the Spires took on Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kansas. The Blue Jays got out in front early in the second half and took a 1-0 lead. With fifteen minutes left in the second half Katy St Martin scored for the Spire's, tying things up at 1-1. As time was dwindling Saint Mary continued to press offensively and just before the final whistle Kylie Wilson scored to give the Spires a 2-1 lead and the win. Women's soccer will host York University for Homecoming at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday at Charles J. Berkel Memorial Stadium.

The Spires are now 2-4 overall and 2-3 in KCAC play after traveling to Ottawa on Saturday, winning 33-23. The first quarter started with a Spires possession that resulted in a two-yard rushing touchdown from Eric Covington to give them the early 6-0 lead. The rest of the quarter featured great defensive stands by the Braves and the Spires. The second quarter saw another rushing touchdown by Covington that made the score 12-0. Ottawa quickly responded after a long touchdown put the Braves on the board 12-7. A stalled drive by Saint Mary allowed Ottawa to go down and kick a field goal to make the score 12-10. With five minutes to go in the half, the Braves looked to take the lead on a long pass play, but Keylin Hodgeforced a fumble through the end zone that gave the ball back to Saint Mary. The Spires capitalized with another rushing touchdown by Covington to give the Spires a 19-10 lead heading into halftime.Both offenses had stalled drives to begin the second half until Henessey Thomasrecovered a fumble and ran it back for a touchdown, giving the Spires a 26-10 lead. The rest of the quarter featured more strong defense as each team was held scoreless. Ottawa started the fourth quarter with a touchdown to cut the Spire's lead to 26-16. Saint Mary was forced to punt on the following possession. The Spire's defense held strong again as Kevin Orangeforced a fumble that was recovered in the end zone by Thomas, making the score 33-16. One more late touchdown by Ottawa made the final score 33-23. The next opponent for Saint Mary will be a Homecoming matchup against Bethany College at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Charles J. Berkel Memorial Stadium.

Spires Earn Big Road Win

Cross Country

The men's and women's Cross-Country team ran in the Allen County Invite Saturday morning. The men took first place out of five teams, while the women placed first out of three teams. Brendan Erwincrossed the finish line first for the Spires in the 8k race, running a 24:46.6, finishing first overall.The top times gave the Spires a combined score of 16 and a first-place finish.The women had a strong showing in the 5k race, with all top five runners being Spires and recording a perfect score. Riley Hiebertled Saint Mary, running a 17:47.6 and coming in first overall. The men and women will be running in the NAIA Regional Meet on October 22 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
