Mom posts about her ‘beyond exhausting’ nine-month-old but everyone’s saying the same thing

WHEN a new mother turned to her Facebook mom group, she was prepared to gripe about frustrations with her infant daughter.

But the mom’s eyebrow-raising post left others shocked and she received critical responses from other parents.

The original complaint, which was cross-posted to Reddit’s forum S**t Mom Groups Say, started off like many other parental laments.

“My daughter is nine months old. I’m so frustrated,” the mom began.

She complained that her daughter could only say “ma” or “mama,” but that the baby didn’t try to say more syllables.

“I’ve taught her sign language since four months old and she still won’t grasp it,” the mom continued – and that’s where her concerns began to get a little strange.

“I’m exhausted from having to guess every day what this child needs,” she wrote. “It’s beyond exhausting.”

Seemingly unaware of her unrealistic expectations, the mom said that she was frustrated by her daughter’s inability to talk.

“She just won’t use her words and proceeds to throw fits when I can’t figure out what she wants in that moment,” the mother complained.

Generally, babies don’t say their first words until they’re nearly a year old, so commenters on Reddit were flabbergasted by the mom’s impossibly high standards.

“It appears this kid has a tough future ahead, with a mom who doesn’t want to deduce their needs or empathize with them,” wrote one Reddit user.

“It’s real early to be fed up with babyish behavior, when the child is still a baby.”

“At nine months she’s either tired, hungry, or took a s**t. Pick one or all and address them,” said a different user.

Many commenters compared the scenario to their own parenting experiences and confirmed that nothing about the circumstances was odd beside the mom’s attitude.

“My daughter had no words at nine months. ZERO,” wrote another parent. “Today we had her first grade conference and her teacher told us she’s one of the brightest kids in her class.”

“Let that poor baby be a baby,” they added.

“My three-year-old uses his words, but he’s in a phase where he makes up his own words, or replaces the first letter of all words with the same letter” wrote another.

“She’s got a long road ahead of her if she’s frustrated now.”

Mostly, commenters worried about the baby, saying she had a long road ahead with an impatient mom.

“I can picture her sitting there literally saying ‘use your words’ over and over…to a freaking nine-month-old,” said a disgusted commenter.

“This poor baby,” said another. “She’s never going to be good enough.”

“In all seriousness, my heart goes out to [the mom] because parenting is so frustrating,” said an empathetic commenter. “I hope she gets the info she needs to feel reassured that she can meet her child’s needs.”
