I’m fed up with floods near my home so I went for a dip to embarrass the council

A DAD fed up with persistent floods near his home went for a dip in one — to embarrass the council.

Jayme Loftus, 40, dug out a rubber ring from a Spanish holiday and floated in a submerged road under a bridge.

The window cleaner says the water goes up to the knee and successive “lakes” have been damaging vehicles for years while nothing is done.

The dad of five said: “It floods every time it rains, so if we have one bad day of rain it will flood for three or four days at a time.

“I wanted to do something to embarrass the council so I just dug my rubber ring out.

“I then decided I was going to go in, and told my wife to quickly take a picture because it was very cold.”

The flooding occurs near an industrial estate in Stockport.

Jayme said: “In the deepest part it’s up to your knees and people’s cars are getting damaged.

“I’ve seen registration plates, the under tray that protects your engine and different bits of car parts come off while people have been driving through it.

“Everyone on the estate is sick of it.

“It makes you wonder — would this happen if it was in a wealthier area?”

Stockport Council have been contacted.
