I’ve driven the Bentley Bentayga EWB – it’s as luxurious as SUVs get with reclining seats and body temperature readings
WE all love to watch a good squabble.
Whether it’s Usyk v Joshua, Liverpool v Man City, or Mrs Rooney v Mrs Vardy.
But of all the rivalries going on right now, this has got to be the most niche.
You’ve got Range Rover and Bentley trying to produce the best SUV limousine.
Yes, that’s right, limo SUV is a thing thanks to these two.
They’re both making stretched versions of their flagships SUVs, Range Rover and Bentayga.

It’s funny to watch this posh lads’ punch-up because a Bentayga EWB (extended wheelbase) can leave the Crewe factory costing as much as £300k.
It’s a car that no one except the top one per cent are ever going to want or afford.
But you absolutely would if you could.
And many are.

Bentayga EWB is 18cm (7in) longer than a standard Bentayga, all of it to benefit those sat in the back.
Look closely at the main picture and the larger rear doors are the biggest giveaway.
The obvious place to start, then, is at the back. Slide into the optional Airline seat – opposite the driver – and it’s not much of a struggle to get comfy.
The doors close electronically. The seat reclines 40 degrees and a powered footrest folds down.
Not only that, the seat constantly reads your body temperature and how you are sitting and adjusts the heating and massage functions accordingly.
Indulgent. Opulent. Exquisite. Extraordinary. Serene. Whisper quiet.
It’s all of those things and more. It’s a truly special place to be.
Bentley will also tell you the cabin space is “larger than any other luxury competitor”.
In short, Range Rover.

OK, let’s have a look up front.
The idea of a stretched version of a massive top-heavy car doesn’t exactly fill keen drivers with excitement.
But Bentley have turned this thing into a weapon with rear-wheel steering, so it’s really fast in a corner as well as a straight line.
The turning circle is actually smaller than a standard Bentayga.
And it flies.
The 550hp 4-litre twin turbo V8 is smooth and effortless around town and blisteringly-fast when you hurry it on the open road.
Ballerina and beast.
Body control is excellent too. Better than a Range Rover. And that V8 sounds epic in Sport mode.
I’ve no doubt the Range is king off-road.
I’ll finish by saying this.
