: CDC officially recommends new boosters for young children

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officially signed off on allowing children as young as 5 years old to get an updated COVID-19 booster shot. CDC Director Rochelle Walensky signed the decision memo on Wednesday afternoon, the same day that the Food and Drug Administration expanded the authorizations for Moderna Inc. MRNA and BioNTech SE BNTX/Pfizer Inc.’s PFE updated COVID-19 boosters. Moderna’s new shot is now available for children between the ages of 6 and 17 years old, while the BioNTech/Pfizer bivalent booster is now available for children between the ages of 5 and 11 years old.
