Fuel cell vehicles could
save gas stations
Regarding the article “Heading to the endangered list?” (Page A1, Oct. 6) it is unfortunate that electric vehicle solutions to global warming printed most often in the press only focus on battery-based solutions and exclude those based on fuel cells that do not require extracting enormous amounts of resources from the ground and for which the fuels would still provide a source of income for all of those gas stations.
The Toyota Mirai Fuel Cell Vehicle is an example that should be followed by others such as those advocated by the Methanol Institute.

Reelect Anna Eshoo
in District 16
When Congressional redistricting occurred, I was disappointed that Willow Glen would be losing one of the best representatives it has had, Rep. Zoe Lofgren. However, we now have the opportunity to elect another one of the best, Rep. Anna Eshoo.
I have known Anna for more than 30 years in my professional career in workforce and economic development as the former director of the NOVA Workforce Board. Given that about 85% of our funding came from the federal government, I worked with the congresswoman on numerous occasions. She and her staff consistently helped us successfully navigate this world, ultimately strengthening workforce development policy to be more responsive to the ever-changing needs of our valley. Her effectiveness and seniority have been rewarded with leadership positions in the House.
She has proven to be strategic, collaborative, pragmatic and a consensus builder. It will be my honor to help reelect Anna Eshoo to District 16.

Listeners deserve
the return of KGO
Re. “KGO 810 ends format — and leaves cryptic message,” Page A1, Oct. 7:
The people of the Bay Area have been betrayed by the owners of KGO 810.
For many decades KGO has provided the Bay Area with news and talk. We already have one 50,000-watt sports talk station. KGO needs to be returned as it was.

Nonprofits unfairly
targeted in ads
Voters have been inundated with campaign messaging distinguishing one candidate from another. Unfortunately, nonprofits find themselves in the crosshairs.
Showing “what’s wrong with government” by attacking nonprofits demonstrates a lack of understanding of our government’s responsibility to residents. Instead of targeting soaring housing costs, the pandemic and the slow road to recovery, some candidates are blaming nonprofits.
Nonprofits adhere to strict regulations and are accountable for the funds they receive. Our funding is an investment in prevention services that save taxpayer dollars. Community Health Partnership and its ten member health centers take pride in the quality work we do, who we serve and what we deliver at a modest cost. We look forward to continuing our strong partnerships with agencies who share our commitment to serving the community.

Prop. 1 goes too far
in abortion debate
Re. “Why a Bay Area Catholic doctor supports abortion choice,” Page A6, Oct. 13:
In her article, Dr. Julia Walsh indicates that she supports the “abortion choices” once protected under the now overruled Roe case because she had witnessed the harm caused to mothers by botched abortions before that case. However, she does not indicate whether she supports Proposition 1, now before the voters, which would go far beyond what the Roe case allowed and potentially “enshrine” all late-term abortions into the California Constitution. Proposition 1 does not even mention the word, “women”.
Dr. Walsh focuses on the thousands of women who were harmed by illegal abortions before Roe but she is silent about the millions of innocent babies who have been aborted since Roe. Modern medical, scientific, photographic, and ultrasound technology (as well as her own Catholic faith which she mentions) all demonstrate that those babies are living human beings whose lives are violently torn apart and snuffed out by abortion. What about them?

Will Alex Jones also
pay for 9/11 lies?
Re. “Alex Jones ordered to pay $965M for massacre lies,” Page A3, Oct. 13:
Now that Alex Jones has been ordered to pay almost a billion dollars for his lies about the Sandy Hook tragedy, it’s time to address his other loony conspiracy allegations.
I am referring to his claims that the building collapses in New York City on 9/11, which took nearly 3,000 lives, were a result of controlled demolition presumably orchestrated by the U.S. government. However, virtually all the evidence he and other conspiracy theorists cite is either a misrepresentation, a gross exaggeration or is contradicted by evidence they conceal. And to add insult to injury, the major player in the 9/11 “truth” industry, Architects and Engineers For 9/11 Truth, operates as a tax-exempt “educational” institution.
Free speech is a right we should cherish but outrageous claims that exploit a national tragedy for personal profit and that deliberately incite hatred for our government should be excluded.
