Man hit and killed by subway train in Queens following scuffle, police say

QUEENS (PIX11) --- A 48-year-old man died after being struck by a subway train in Queens Monday, police said.

The man was involved in a scuffle with a 50-year-old man on the Jamaica-bound F train platform at the Roosevelt Avenue and Broadway station around 4:45 p.m., police said. The man was on the track when he was hit, police said.

The victim was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. The 50-year-old man was taken into custody.

The two men did not know each other, according to police. The scuffle started after the 48-year-old man appeared to accidentally knock the 50-year-old man's cell phone out of his hand and onto the track, police said. The two men tussled, and the 48-year-old fell down on the platform in the yellow warning area and then rolled onto the track.

Based on video of the incident, it's unclear if the 50-year-old man pushed the 48-year-old man onto the subway track or just down onto the platform and then the victim rolled onto the track, police said.

No charges have been filed yet.
