Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Netflix documentary ‘delayed’ after backlash over ‘King Charles plotline in The Crown’
PRINCE Harry and Meghan Markle’s highly anticipated documentary has been delayed after Netflix faced backlash over a plotline in a major program.
Netflix decided to postpone the documentary until next year following attacks from former UK Prime Minister John Major who complained about how King Charles II was set to be portrayed in the upcoming season of The Crown.
The former PM dubbed the first episode of Season 5 “a barrel-load of nonsense” saying it could unfairly harm the reputation of King Charles.
Imagined conversations between the ex-Tory leader, the Queen, and the then-Prince of Wales are set to feature in the new series, released on Netflix next month.
Deadline reported the episode suggests that Prince Charles summoned Major in 1992 to complain about having to wait to take over the throne.
In a statement, a spokesman for Sir John said: “Sir John has not cooperated in any way with The Crown.
“Discussions between the Monarch and Prime Minister are entirely private and, for Sir John, will always remain so.”
Another plot line is said to imagine Sir John making disparaging comments about the Queen and Royal Family.
His spokesman said: “There was never any discussion about any possible abdication.”
The spokesman added Sir John had never discussed the royals in disparaging terms.

“They’re rattled at Netflix, and they blinked first and decided to postpone the documentary,” a source reportedly told Deadline.
The comes as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were said to be feeling panicked about their show following the Queen’s death.
They are said to be at odds with Netflix staff and the show could even be “shelved indefinitely”, insiders claim.
But the streaming giant was said to be standing by the filmmakers who want to keep the content they have.
One insider reportedly told Page Six: “Harry and Meghan are panicked about trying to tone down even the most basic language. But it’s their story, from their own mouths.”
Another added: “They’ve made significant requests to walk back content they themselves have provided — to the extent that some Netflix staff believe, if granted, it will effectively shelve the project indefinitely.”
Last month The Sun revealed Prince Harry desperately tried to make last-minute changes to his bombshell book.
The moves by the Duke, who has already received half of a £35million deal for his memoirs, come amid fears some sections are now “insensitive”.
Sources say he may fear parts will be deemed insensitive so soon after the Queen’s death — and his dad Charles taking the throne.
It also emerged he got an advance of around £17.5million ($20million) for the “wholly truthful” memoir — part of a £35million four-book deal.
Harry, 38, who has launched a series of verbal assaults on his family, has contacted publishers but the book has already been signed off and is expected to be on sale by the end of the year.
