[Football] Meyer Tabbed for GPAC Special Teams Honor
A school record punt was a key highlight for Kelen Meyer (FR/Ord, Neb.) as he was awarded the Great Plains Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday. The honor was the second for Meyer this year.
On Saturday at Hastings, Meyer blasted an 86-yard punt to break the previous school record set in 2007. The kick carried 74 yards in the air and was downed at the Hastings 3-yard line. For the day, he averaged 50.6 yards per punt on eight attempts with two pinned inside the 20-yard line. Meyer ranks 3rd nationally in punting average, sitting at 42.6 yards per punt through six games this season.
In addition to his punting efforts on Saturday, he made a 29-yard field goal and averaged 66.0 yards per kickoff with one touchback.
Earlier this season, Meyer received his first honor after making four field goals in a game against Concordia. Doane will return home on Saturday as they play host to No. 4 Northwestern at 1 PM.
