4 stabbed, 1 fatally, in 3 Long Beach attacks; a suspect is in custody
One person died and three others were injured after a series of stabbings in Long Beach early Monday morning, Oct. 17 with a suspect arrested, authorities said.
A woman was found with multiple stab wounds to her upper body around 5:30 a.m. in the 1100 block of Atlantic Avenue, said Brandon Fahey, a spokesman for the Long Beach Police Department.
She died at a hospital. Her identify had not been released, pending next of kin notification.
About an hour later, a man was found with similar upper-body stab wounds in the 700 block of Olive Avenue. He was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Just after 7 a.m., two more men suffered stab wounds to the upper body at Ocean Boulevard and Fourth Place. One man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and the other was treated at the scene.
At that scene, a man, believed to be homeless, was found with a knife was taken into custody, Fahey said. He was later identified as Yohance Sharp, 21, of Long Beach.
Sharp is suspected to be responsible for all three attacks though the motive for the stabbings remain under investigation. The attacks were unprovoked and the suspect did not know any of the victims, police said.
He was being held on a $2 million bail.
