Bulgarian doctors will stage a nationwide protest over the consequences of the crisis
Doctors in Bulgaria’s ambulance centres have announced a national protest over low wages and poor working conditions amid the crisis in the country. This was reported by the Trud newspaper.
A nationwide protest by employees of Bulgaria’s Emergency Medical Care Centres is scheduled for 19 October in front of the Council of Ministers in Sofia, when the first meeting of the newly elected parliament will be held, reported Trud. The protest will be large-scale due to the fact that salaries at the emergency medical centres have not been renewed for 10 years, nor the means of maintaining the centres themselves.
“The most active participants in the protests are medics from centres in North-East Bulgaria, a region with record low incomes not only for the country, but also for Europe,” the newspaper quotes the chairman of the national trade union, Krasimir Mitov.
The newspaper specifies that the medics are demanding that their employment category be equated to that of the police and firefighters, with whom they cooperate in emergency situations.
