Prison officer, 25, ‘had inappropriate relationship with inmate’ and ‘called him while he was behind bars’
A PRISON officer has appeared in court after allegedly forming an “inappropriate” relationship with an inmate and calling him while he was behind bars.
Ruth Shmylo, 25, denied the alleged fling with the unidentified lag while working at a category B prison in Bridgend, Wales.
Cardiff Crown Court heard she came into contact with the con at the 1,652-capacity HMP Parc Prison where she previously worked as a custody officer.
Shmylo is accused of misconduct in a public office following claims she had an “inappropriate relationship” with the inmate.
The court heard the charges relate to alleged phone calls between the 25-year-old and the prisoner.
She “strongly denies” the allegations, a previous hearing was told.

Prosecutors have been ordered to serve transcripts of the alleged conversations between the pair before a trial takes place next year.
Shmylo, wearing a white T-shirt and grey blazer at Tuesday’s hearing, spoke only to confirm her name, age, address and plea.
The charge against her states: “While acting as a public officer, namely a prison custody officer, wilfully and without reasonable excuse or justification misconducted yourself in a way which amounted to an abuse of the public’s trust in the office holder by engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a prisoner.”
