Report: Spurs have admitted they made mistake by not signing 25-year-old
90 min claim that Tottenham Hotspur have internally admitted that they made a mistake by not signing Kim Min-Jae on the back of the start the centre-back has made to his Napoli career.
Kim was mooted to be a target for the Lilywhites as far back as the summer of 2020 (90 Min) when he was still at Beijing Guoan, and the South Korean was once again reported to be keen on a switch to the North London club this summer (AreaNapoli).
However, it was Napoli who won the race for the 25-year-old, who has been a revelation since his move from Fenerbahce back in July.
Kim’s contract is thought to have a release clause of €50m (£43.4m), which comes into effect in July 2023, and the defender is now said to be on Manchester United’s radar (Il Mattino via Napoli Magazine).
90 min have now claimed that Son gave a ringing endorsement of his international teammate to the Spurs hierarchy and the Lilywhites could have signed the centre-back for just £10m two years ago.
It is claimed that the club have now admitted to Son that they were wrong to not push harder to get Kim and apologised to the forward for ignoring his pleas.
Spurs Web Opinion
Tottenham would have likely enquired about Kim to Son when he first appeared on their radar but to suggest that they would apologise to the forward is far-fetched. That is particularly unlikely given that a different regime was in charge at Spurs in 2020, with Fabio Paratici now calling the shots.
