Di Marzio gives his take on Harry Kane’s future and Bayern Munich links

0

Gianluca Di Marzio has said that Harry Kane’s future is tied with Antonio Conte’s and that the striker would be willing to commit himself to Tottenham if the Italian stays at the club.

Kane’s current contract with Spurs runs out in the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt) and reports from Germany have continued to link the Tottenham star with a move to Bayern Munich.

TZ claimed last week that Bayern have identified the 29-year-old as their number one striker target for next summer and are prepared to pay over €100m (£86.2m) to sign the 29-year-old.

However, the likes of Ben Jacobs and Alasdair Gold have said over recent weeks that Kane is open to discussing a new contract with Tottenham.

It is not just Kane’s future that has been the subject of speculation but also Conte’s, with the Italian’s current deal at the North London club running out at the end of the season (albeit with an extension clause – via Football London).

According to The Telegraph’s recent report, Spurs are expected to talk with their head coach over a new deal during the mid-season break for the World Cup.

Di Marzio believes that Kane is unlikely to leave Tottenham if Conte commits his future to the club.

When asked about the speculation linking the striker with a move to Bayern, the journalist told Wettfreunde: “I think that depends on Antonio Conte’s future.

“Whether Antonio Conte will extend his contract with Tottenham. If Antonio Conte stays it’s because Tottenham really want to improve and win the Premier League and Champions League.

“If Antonio Conte stays it’s because he has the guarantee that Kane, Son, Richarlison – all the great Tottenham players – will stay. I don’t think Conte will stay if Tottenham sell Harry Kane.

“If Tottenham’s project is a successful project, it’s better for Harry Kane to stay in London with Antonio because we see how important it is to have a coach like him in training, in the tactical improvements they’ve had. And Harry Kane is playing better now too.

“I don’t think it would be the right move for Harry Kane to go to Bayern Munich now. It depends on what Tottenham want to do in the future.

“How they will perform in the tournaments. It is still too early to know what will happen next. It is difficult to predict what will happen.

“But sure, Bayern Munich after Lewandowski was sold to Barcelona don’t have a striker like him. You didn’t buy a Lewandowski replacement. They have Mane, but Mane is not a physical striker. If they need a player like him, they will surely try.

“They will try to get Harry Kane or a player similar to Harry Kane. I know Bayern Munich want Harry Kane. I don’t know if this is the right move for Harry Kane. He should stay if Antonio Conte stays.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The Tottenham hierarchy will realise that the futures of Conte and Kane are intrinsically tied together and that if they are not able to retain the Italian, they risk losing the striker. This is why I fully expect the club to continue backing Conte and tie the Italian down to a new contract sooner rather than later.
