Soon after the declaration of the Assembly results, BSP chief Mayawati had held the Muslim community responsible, in essence, for its defeat, saying that because they chose to back the Samajwadi Party (SP), the upper castes, Dalits and OBCs, fearing an SP rule, chose to vote for the BJP instead to keep the SP from winning.
