Nolan Arenado Staying With Cardinals
Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports
Katie Woo of The Athletic reports that star third baseman Nolan Arenado has opted into the final five years, $144 million left on his contract with the St. Louis Cardinals.
Arenado, 31, slashed .293/.358/.533 with 42 doubles, 30 home runs, 103 RBIs, and only struck out 72 times this season in 148 games with the Cardinals. The nine-time Gold Glover is a finalist again this year after recording 15 outs above average at third base.
Arenado will likely finish in the top 5 of the NL MVP voting after finishing the season second in fWAR at 7.3 among NL position players.
The seven-time All-Star is a career .289/.346/.535 hitter with 338 doubles, 299 home runs, and 968 RBIs. He has amassed 45.7 fWAR in 10 big league seasons between the Colorado Rockies and the Cardinals.
