Vees’ Smith commits to Mercyhurst University
PENTICTON, B.C. – The Penticton Vees are pleased to announce forward Spencer Smith (’02) has committed to Mercyhurst University for the 2023-24 season, the team announced Tuesday.
Smith, 20, is in his second and final season with the Vees. The product of St. Catharines, ON has five points (2G, 3A) in 14 games. The Vees’ Alternate Captain compiled 25 points (11G, 14A) in 53 regular season games last year. He had another five points (2G, 3A) in 17 BCHL Playoff games, helping Penticton capture their 13thFred Page Cup in team history. Prior to coming to the Peach City, Smith played two seasons with the Lincoln Stars in the United States Hockey League.
With Smith’s commitment, the Vees now have 16 players on their roster committed to NCAA Division l programs.
Mercyhurst University, founded in 1926, is situated in Erie, Pennsylvania. The Mercyhurst Lakers play in the 10-team Atlantic Hockey Association and have been an NCAA Division 1 program since the 1999-00 season.
The Penticton Vees (14-0-0-0) look to keep their perfect record intact this weekend at the SOEC. The Vees host the Prince George Spruce Kings (9-3-0-1) on Friday, November 4th, at 7:00 pm. The following night, Saturday, November 5th, the Vees welcome the Wenatchee Wild (2-9-0-1); faceoff slated for 6:00 pm.
