On November 4th, 1922, Howard Carter made a note in his pocket diary: ‘First steps of tomb found.’ The following day he added: ‘Discovered tomb under tomb of Ramses VI. Investigated same & found seals intact.’ The find inspired a media frenzy around the world and inspired designers to incorporate ancient Egyptian motifs on everything from clothing to architecture, a feature of the Art Deco style that dominated the decorative arts until the mid-1930s.
