Ben Chilwell seen leaving Stamford Bridge on crutches with hamstring injury set to rob Chelsea star of World Cup dream

CHELSEA left-back Ben Chilwell was filmed leaving Stamford Bridge on crutches as a hamstring injury looks set to scupper his World Cup dream.

The 25-year-old defender pulled up and collapsed to the floor in injury-time at the end of Chelsea’s 2-1 win against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

He was helped off by the team’s medical staff, heavily limping as he made his way down the tunnel.

And after the fans had left the ground he then made his way back out on crutches, exiting Stamford Bridge in a thoroughly dejected manner.

The footage of Chilwell adds even more doubt to his chances of making England’s World Cup squad.

The Three Lions’ first match comes against Iran in less than three weeks on November 21.

When asked about the injury after the game, Chelsea boss Graham Potter said: “[It’s] not great.

“When he pulls up like that it’s a concern. We need to scan it but it’s not positive at the moment.

“It’s a blow for us on an otherwise positive evening. To see him pull up like that isn’t a great sight, so fingers crossed when we get it scanned it isn’t as bad [as it looked]. Clearly we’re disappointed.”

When pressed on whether Chilwell is now a doubt for the World Cup, the Blues boss added: “You’d have to say so, yeah.

“I don’t want to add any more than that but when a player pulls up like he did and he felt it, it’s never positive.

“I spoke to him briefly. He just felt something as he was setting off. Obviously he’s disappointed and upset.”

Chilwell looked set to fight it out with fellow left-back Luke Shaw for a starting place in Gareth Southgate‘s side.

His potential World Cup heartbreak comes after he failed to play a single minute of England‘s run to the Euros final last summer.

Kieran Trippier lined up as the left wingback for the opening game against Croatia, before Luke Shaw played the remaining six, including the final in which he scored.
