Love Island’s Tasha Ghouri vows to be first deaf winner of iconic British TV show

TASHA Ghouri says she’s not done with breaking glass ceilings after becoming Love Island’s first ever deaf star earlier this summer.

The 24-year-old has set her sights on landing a place on another popular entertainment show to encourage inclusion of the deaf and hard-of-hearing.

Despite dreams of competing on Strictly Come Dancing one day, Tasha hopes to become an advocate – just like 2021 series winner Rose-Ayling Ellis.

“The deaf community can often be overlooked, so that’s why its so important to use our voices and to keep raising awareness because it’s not spoken about enough,” Tasha told The Sun.

“I get people who have hidden their hearing aids in the past messaging saying ‘because of you, I wear my hair up now’.

“It makes me happy seeing other people happy.

“I’d love to do Strictly, but obviously Rose was on that.

“Maybe something like Great British Bake Off or a cool cooking programme. I’d love to do something like that.

“I’m A Celeb is definitely not for me… I’m not a creepy crawlies’ girl. You will not see me in that jungle.”

Channel 4 bosses are likely to be trying to snap up Tasha to star in the next series of The Great Celebrity Bake Off, in aid of Stand Up To Cancer.

The channel has already included inspirational deaf pastry chef, Sam Widnall, from Wales in its spin-off show Bake Off: The Professionals back in 2019.

Tasha has already been bombarded with job offers since leaving the villa three months ago.

But the model insists she doesn’t care about the money – and wants to use her platform to promote her causes.

Yesterday she unveiled a sculpture at the Roundhouse in London to celebrate the incredible achievements of deaf British signsong rapper, Signkid.

“I wouldn’t say I am a {millionaire] just yet,” answered Tasha.

“For me, I don’t care about money. I’m going with things that matter and make sense to me personally.

“I’m not striving to be a millionaire, I’m striving to do things that matter to me.”

Tasha teamed up with The National Lottery to work on its latest campaign, The People’s Portraits, which is working to award the amazing work of local heroes across the UK.

The campaign shines a light on how the £30million raised a week by National Lottery players goes towards good causes across the UK.

Music brings joy to people all over the world, and that includes those who are hard of hearing,” said Tasha.

Signkid has achieved incredible things in making a challenging art-form for the deaf community accessible and relatable, and as  somebody who has struggled with inclusion within this space in the past, I am honoured to unveil this stunning artwork celebrating his achievements, made possible by The National Lottery funding.”

“It was so nice to see everyone at the National Television Awards and Pride of Britain.

“We all catch up and have a really nice night together.

“There’s space for everyone. That’s why there’s no competition between the girls. The girls and boys are smashing it.

“Everyone has different goals and dreams.

“I’m on my own path.

“I’m so proud of everyone.”
