Man in critical condition in shooting on Parsons Ave.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Columbus Police are investigating a shooting where a man was firing shots in a Tee Jaye's parking lot, then took aim at offices arriving at the scene.

According to Columbus PD, officers responded to reports of a man firing shots in the Tee Jaye's parking lot on Parsons Avenue and Frebis Avenue at around 5:30 a.m. Thursday. Upon arrival the suspect began firing at the officers before he was shot by one officer.

Medics worked on the suspect, who sustained unspecified injuries from the gunshot wound, before being taken to a nearby hospital. He is listed in critical condition. No officers were injured during the incident.

Brian Steel, the Executive Vice President Fraternal Order of Police Capital City Lodge #9, sent a social media post that stated, "@capcityfop leadership responded to early morning CPD Police Involved Shooting on 11 Precinct. Thankful the officer is ok & returning to his family after his shift. The suspect is being treated at the hospital and I pray for his speedy recovery. Ohio BCI is investigating."

Parsons Avenue is currently closed between Hanford Street and East Moeler Street for an undetermined amount of time as police continue to investigate. NBC4 will have more details as they become available.
