After making sure his family were out of the house, Anwar attempted to put out the flames in the garage he built with his late father.

Four fire engines and 25 firefighters were sent at around 10.30 pm and worked all night to stop the fire.

Sadly two cars were lost completely and others were badly damaged in the collection that was worth upwards of £100,000.

Speaking to My London, Anwar Sabar said: “It’s etched in my mind forever, the smell, the heat of the flames, the sheer panic, the devastation it was such a mix of emotions.”

Anwar’s love for cars started when he was just a boy in Kenya when he and his family used to visit the East African Car Rally every year.

When Anwar moved to the UK in 1986, he bought a Datsun which was the favourite brand of his dad at the time.

“I loved it so much that when I moved to the UK in 1986 I bought the exact same model for myself,” said Anwar.

After raising his seven children in Southall, he built a garage with his father to store his cars in the hope of leaving his legacy to his children.

During the pandemic, Anwar was made redundant as an engineer so he focused on restoring classic cars instead.

Anwar’s son Shamee, said: “I’ve only seen him cry twice in my life, once when his dad died and that night”.

“He tried to act like was okay but I could see his mouth trembling, it was really hard to see,” he added.
