Man spends 240 hours crafting Union Flag rug to send to King Charles
A royal fanatic has made it his mission to ensure the Royal Family enjoy his custom-made rug.
Terry Sillifant, 74, has spent more than 240 hours crafting the Union Jack-themed gift for King Charles.
The pensioner previously sent a rug to the Queen and was left ‘disappointed’ to have never heard back.
He hopes to have better luck with the nation’s new monarch.
Terry, from Holsworthy in Devon, said: ‘The first one was sent off in May 2020, but I don’t think it arrived there. It was quite disappointing.
‘It took slightly longer than 240 to make the rug itself, and then another three hours or so to put the back on it.
‘I only make rugs as a hobby, I certainly couldn’t make a job out of it. All in all I made the rug over about four weeks.
‘I put his initials on it like I did with Queen Elizabeth’s one.’
Terry, a retired highways engineers, decided to start crafting the rug following the death of Her Majesty in September.
Four weeks later, he sent the creation to Buckingham Palace.
He’s since had confirmation the package has been received and has crossed his fingers that the rug may truly be fit for a King.
Terry said: ‘I used first class delivery and tracking for the rug, so I know now that it’s been received there by someone who is presumably a guard.
‘No parcel will go straight to the King of course, they’ve got to be examined and everything. You never know, maybe I’ll get a letter back this time.’
