GXO brewery drivers win pay rise of up to 12.5%

0

GXO lorry drivers delivering beer to pubs and bars on behalf of some of the biggest breweries in the UK have voted in favour of a pay deal that will see salaries rise by up to 12.5%.

The decision to accept the one-year pay deal means strike action by 1,000 draymen, which could have disrupted supplies during this year’s World Cup, has now been cancelled.

The Unite union, which represents the drivers, said workers had voted “overwhelmingly in favour” of the improved offer from GXO, which will see their pay increase by between 9.5% and 12.5%.

The company’s previous offer was 5%.

The pay rise benefits workers based at GXO sites in Coventry, Avonmouth, Norwich, Greenford, Dagenham, Croydon, Faversham, Thatcham, Southampton, Livingston, Dundee, Aberdeen, Inverness, Dumfries, Ivybridge, Swansea, Anglesey, Manchester, Preston, Carlisle, Washington and Wakefield.

Unite national officer Joe Clarke said: “Our members were determined to win a decent pay rise and by acting collectively through Unite this is what they have achieved. It is another reminder that workers looking to improve their wages and working lives should join Unite and get their colleagues to do the same.”
