EPA reopens Jahra Nature Reserve

KUWAIT: Head of Environment Public Authority Sheikh Abdullah Al-Sabah reopened Jahra Nature Reserve on Thursday, which will start welcoming visitors starting Friday. “The reserve aims to boost environmental tourism in Kuwait and raise environmental awareness,” Sheikh Abdullah said. The opening was attended by representatives of many embassies and a number of school students.

The 18-sq-km reserve was set up in 1987, four square kilometers of which is open to the public. It has more than 300 types of migratory and local birds, with five different environments, including mangrove, coastal and desert environments. The reserve is open for investments by small and medium companies with the approval of the public relations department to display their products and market them to increase environmental awareness.

The success of this attempt will allow more reserves to be opened to encourage environmental tourism and preserve flora and fauna. Visiting hours will be from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Photographers, with permission, will be able to enter from 5:00 am. Reservations can be done on the EPA’s official app, while a team from the authority will be present to guide visitors. – KUNA
