Report: Spurs to focus on quality rather than quantity in January window
Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Antonio Conte is happy with the size of his squad and that Tottenham will focus on upgrading it in terms of quality rather than numerically when the transfer window reopens in January.
The Evening Standard reported last week that Spurs will allow Bryan Gil, Japhet Tanganga and Pape Matar Sarr to leave on loan in January, with Conte alleged to have demanded direct replacements for the three players.
This sentiment has now seemingly been backed up by Gold, who explained that Spurs were focused on improving the squad numerically in the summer and will now prioritise adding quality in January.
He stated that Gil will be loaned out if the North London club are able to sign a backup to Dejan Kulusevski while they would also look to upgrade on Tanganga.
The journalist added that Conte wants ‘readymade players’ and that the Lilywhites would allow players who are deemed ‘expendable’ to leave if a better replacement can be found.
Spurs Web Opinion
I cannot see anyone apart from Bryan Gil, Pape Sarr and Japhet Tanganga being allowed to leave in January. While Conte might feel that the likes of Davinson Sanchez and Emerson Royal can be upgraded upon, Spurs are likely to do that next summer rather than mid-season.
