THERE’S a fine line between a unique name and a name that could get your little one bullied.

Although most parents carefully consider this when deciding what to name their baby you can’t always predict what will work as they get older.

That’s what one woman discovered when het goddaughters started school and get teased over their names.

Posting on Quora, she explained that the sisters are from Greek origin and their mum wanted something traditional for both their names.

She said: “Understandably proud of her heritage she named one Ariadne and one Atheni.

“To make it easier for her big sister, she has always been known as either Theenie, or Thea, while Ariadne was either Aydey, Addy or Ari.”

Despite everyone loving the names the woman confessed that the mum overlooked one thing.

“My best friend didn’t take in to consideration that she was raising said kids in a rough part of North London, or that Atheni is an easily corrupted name,” she said.

It turns out one of the sisters was left with an unusual nickname.

She revealed: “My poor goddaughter has spent her life having to explain to new teachers and people she meets that her name isn’t … Thingy.”

Other parents understood the struggle, one said: “Oh no! They’re such beautiful names, too.

‘”Is it bad that I laughed at ‘Thingy”? It’s bad, right?”

Another quipped: “It could be much worse.”
