The Rishi Vijayakumar Chess Road Show – Chennai India!
Mrs Meera Memorial International FIDE Rapid Tournament 2022
29th to 30th Oct 22 – Chennai, India
9-Round Swiss
These are the continuing chess exploits of Master Rishi Vijayakumar J11 of Castlehill Chess Club Dundee. Rishi has been in India for a few weeks and I think he is due back tomorrow (Mon 7th Nov). While away you cannot keep him away from the chess board!
He entered the Mrs Meera Memorial FIDE International Rapid Chess Tournament in Chennai, India.
Chennai (for you old one`s formally called Madras!) is the 6th most populated city in India and is the capital of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu just off the Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal.
Rishi in a field of over 351 players was seeded 28th with a grade of 1645. Unbelievably, or to be honest maybe not so unbelievably, Rishi finished in 9th place on 7 points with a TPR of 1764. Wow!
Rishi faced a variety of grades and managed to over come all but the top seed (2309) and 7th seed (2141). He did however manage to beat the number 9th seeded player graded 2119!
Once again a fantastic performance from Master Rishi! Hopefully his enthusiasm for chess will continue along with his chess skills and grading. If I am honest, I am a bit jealous as I would have loved to have his skills and play in all of these tournaments and countries when I was his age! (may be when I retire!)
It will be good to see him again at the club once he gets back and I look forward to reporting once in the future on his continuing chess exploits!
