2022 A10 Tournament
Hosted by SLU. With one weekend of regular season left the entire field is set. That never happens. But seeds are not set at all.
For the Flyers, the win against Loyola on Friday and taking care of business this coming weekend with 2 matches we should win against URI, we would re-captured the 3rd seed we gave away last weekend when we lost twice to SLU. We will have to play 3 matches to win the auto bid to the NCAAs.
The two teams getting a bye for the first round are Loyola and Davidson. They play this weekend in Chicago for the regular season championship and the top seed in the tournament. Its a perfect set up for the A10 and good for the conference.
George Washington sits in 4th place with a week to go with the same record as Dayton. Technically we havent locked down the 3rd seed, but we arent going to lose to URI in Frericks on a weekend we honor the seniors & graduating players. We own the tiebreaker with GW having beaten them twice this year. They play VCU this weekend. They would have to beat VCU twice and we lose to URI once to take over the 3rd seed. I expect us to sweep URI both matches. And Im not sure GW can beat VCU once, let alone twice. But beating VCU twice would mean they edge out SLU for the 4th seed and they could hope for a miracle with a URI win over UD, for a 3rd seed. At best I think its a split for GW. That puts them at 11-7 and they own the tiebreaker over SLU, so that would give them the 4th seed. They lose twice to VCU and they will probably drop to 6th.
SLU plays Duquesne and they will win both matches to finish at 11-7. That gives them the 5th seed. They will be pulling for VCU to beat GW twice. If that happens, they will be the 4th seed.
VCU will be the 6th seed unless they beats GW twice. If that happens, VCU will have the same record as GW, 10-8, and they would own the tiebreaker. So VCU would move up to the 5th seed and GW would drop from 4th to 6th.
As the 3rd seed, UD would play the 6th seed. That should be VCU or GW. We beat GW twice and split with VCU on the road during the regular season.
And forgive me for the final comment subject to all teams beating teams twice this weekend, that wont be in the tournament. But then again, we split with Loyola, so anything can happen.
