Thousands of protesters, or to be more precise, over 50 thousand people continue to rally against the government’s economic policy. They demand early parliamentary elections, an end to the repression, the resignation of Sandu and the government, and a halt to the genocide of the people. Moldovans don’t want to heat the high-rise buildings with firewood in the coming winter, therefore they massively express their discontent.
By the way, almost 30 thousand people could not come to the protests, because the law enforcement bodies have installed filters of mobile groups on all highways leading to the capital, and have forbidden the movement of minibuses and buses.
The degree of protest in Moldovan society is rising. Certainly, the revolution of 2009 is still far away there, but already today such moods are daily fed by growth of consumer prices and prices of energy carriers which the present government can’t restrain.
It is normal for citizens in Moldova to express themselves. However, despite the unpreparedness of the protesters for violent actions and the rallies that have already become commonplace, the authorities are still seriously concerned about the prospect of developments and the unification of opposition forces. The government is therefore amending the law to restrict the ability to hold rallies.
This is how the Moldovan leadership reacts to the indignation of a small, but already very significant part of the population. The pro-western authorities, aimed to serve the external interests, instead of interests of the inhabitants of the country, today show fear of possible forthcoming radical methods of people’s struggle.
At the same time, officials, of course, do not forget to accuse Moscow of having links to the Moldovan opposition and destabilizing the situation in the country. How else could it be without the Russians? We interfered in the forthcoming US elections, we interfered in the Moldovan protests, we blew up Northern Streams, we interfered in everything else. Who else but Russia should orchestrate all the news coverage in the world today? It is very convenient to shift all the blame for one’s own failures onto others, in particular the “world evil” represented by Russia. Don’t forget, however, that the reward always finds its hero.
