Hasenhuttl was relieved of his duties on Monday following Southampton’s 4-1 home defeat by Newcastle.

The 55-year-old was appointed in December 2018, but departs with the club anchored in the Premier League relegation zone with 12 points from a possible 42.

Saints have three wins this season, but only one from the past nine matches.

The Austrian leaves with a 34% win percentage having won 59 of his 173 matches in charge.

Southampton said in a statement: “Hasenhuttl departs having made a significant contribution to the club, overseeing some memorable results and also playing a key role in the development of our club infrastructure, identity and playing squad.

“However, we now believe it is an appropriate time to make a change.
