Highway maintenance driver overtakes cyclist dangerously on narrow road before reversing back to shout abuse
A SHOCKING video has captured the moment a Highway Maintenance driver overtakes a cyclist dangerously on a narrow road.
The clip shared on Twitter by @Northfieldcycl1 was filmed using the rider’s helmet camera.
The video, filmed in Birmingham, shows the Highway Maintenance driver overtaking a cyclist before braking almost immediately to stop at a junction.
After that, the rider shouts to the highway maintenance driver: “Really! Really! Must get in front, Just couldn’t wait, could you?”
But rather than drive away, the highway maintenance driver decides to confront the cyclist by reversing back down the middle of a busy road towards oncoming traffic.
The cyclist asked him again: “Why couldn’t you just wait?”

Twitter user @Northfieldcycl1 wrote: “Highways Maintenance drivers really are the worst..Close pass, drives over white lines whilst reversing into traffic.”
Other users are divided; some believe the Highway Maintenance driver left plenty of space to pass, but others disagree.
One said: “Although I can actually understand that he doesn’t want to get stuck behind you, his reversing manoeuvre is awful and dangerous.
“Send it to the police, it’s dangerous driving.”
Another said: “Hopefully he’ll be sacked for that demonstration of driving ineptitude. Someone should’ve reminded him, he represents the company/council whilst in the vehicle.”

But other people were in support of the Highway Maintenance driver.
One said: “The cyclist shouldn’t be provoking him.
“That’s how road rage happens. Wasn’t a close pass but a pass near a junction, would’ve been fine with me anyway.
“The cyclist is trying too hard and needs to chill but no excuse for the reverse. Both are at fault.”
West Midlands Police answered the Tweet, saying: “We are the first force in the country to target “close pass” drivers who endanger riders, you can report this incident online.”
