What’s New?
Spirited – Apple TV+
Come on, it’s never too early to start getting into the Christmas spirit. And if you are in the mood for something to make you feel merry, like Santa this film is guaranteed to deliver.
Starring the dream duo of Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds, this sparkling and festive musical comedy takes A Christmas Carol and turns it on its head. Each year, the Ghost of Christmas Present (Will) picks one miserable so-and-so to be reformed by the visit of the famous three spirits.
But this Christmas, he picks the wrong Scrooge, Clint Biggs (Ryan), and before long, the Ghost is forced to examine his own past, present and future. Also starring Octavia Spencer, this is an all-singing, all-dancing magical early Christmas pressie.

Yellowstone – Paramount+
Absolutely huge in the US, Yellowstone is back for its long-awaited fifth series. If you’ve yet to leap on board this juggernaut drama, here’s a quick recap: the show chronicles the trials and tribulations of the Dutton family – headed by tough-as-nails patriarch John Dutton (Kevin Costner) – who own the largest cattle ranch in the States.
As we rejoin the action, John is looking set to win the election for State Governor. Meanwhile, Beth (Kelly Reilly) has brother Jamie (Wes Bentley) under her control, having taken incriminating pictures of him with Garrett’s dead body.
Anyone who loves epic but gritty family sagas that blend elements of both Westerns and crime dramas should definitely saddle up.

Limitless With Chris Hemsworth – Disney+
New scientific research is radically changing what we know about the human body, what it’s capable of and whether it’s possible for us to reverse the ageing process.
And in this adrenaline-fuelled series, Thor himself – aka Chris Hemsworth – puts this cutting-edge research to the test, undergoing six epic, physically and mentally demanding challenges, hoping to learn how to extend human health, strength and intellect and how to live better for longer.
With Chris describing it as “a battle against what time can do to us”, it’s an exhilarating watch.

A fabulous, pan-European cast – including Emily Beecham and Aneurin Barnard – star in this gorgeously gloomy and gripping period mystery horror series from the creators of Dark.
A group of immigrants travelling on a steamboat from London to New York are rocked when they discover a spooky and seemingly abandoned ship adrift in the Atlantic Ocean – a ship that’s been missing for months.
Soon, strange and terrifying things start to happen, leaving them all fearing for their lives.

Dead To Me – Netflix
Black comedies don’t get much blacker than this award-winning US show that centres around two women – Jen (Christina Applegate) and Judy (Linda Cardellini) – who bonded at a grief support group, only to discover that Jen’s late husband was killed by Judy in a hit-and-run accident.
Somehow, the pair managed to find a way through that shocking revelation, and this week the third and final series arrives. Last time we were with them, Jen and Judy had just been involved in a car smash caused by Jen’s on-off love interest Ben (James Marsden).
How badly are they hurt? Will Jen finally face justice for Steve’s murder? And will Charlie realise Judy was involved in his father’s death? All will be revealed.

Ingenious and armed with an entertaining streak of humour, it’s the action-packed mash up of Ocean’s 11, New Tricks and The A Team you never realised you needed.

Tulsa King – Paramount+
With so many dramas built upon the brutal adventures of an organised crime gang, it’s hard to know which to pick when looking for some gritty TV thrills. Fortunately, new 10-part series Tulsa King stands out from the intimidating and over-populated crowd. Why? Two words: Sylvester Stallone.
Yes, good old Sly is the main draw in this entertaining new series, playing New York mafia boss Dwight ‘The General’ Manfredi, who’s released from prison after 25 years, expecting to be welcomed back with open arms by his mob clan.
However, instead of a cushy promotion within the gang he’s been protecting while in prison, his reward for keeping his mouth shut is being shunted out to the back of beyond – Tulsa, Oklahoma – to set up a new branch of the organisation.
Realising that maybe his loyalty to the mob isn’t being returned, Dwight begins assembling his own crew, with one thing on his mind: revenge. Meanwhile, there’s the small matter of trying to get his bearings after all those years behind bars, in an unfamiliar and often unforgiving town.
Created by man-of-the-moment Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone, 1883) and Terence Winter, who was an executive producer on The Sopranos, the series mixes humour with hard-hitting gangster action and violence.
It’s an ideal vehicle for Sly’s charisma, while the supporting cast – which includes Garrett Hedlund, Andrea Savage and Vincent Piazza – are the perfect foils for his ability to switch in an instant between easy charm and genuine menace.
So, stop scrolling through all those other shows and take a trip to Tulsa.
