Will it be a Super Sunday?

Well, we don’t know about that. But it certainly could be a Sorry Sunday for Germany if they are unable to beat Spain.

Just one game in, and the Germans have reached must-win territory after their 2-1 loss to Japan. They will in all likelihood exit the competition if they lose.

Elsewhere Roberto Martinez will be hopeful of a better performance against Morocco despite beating Canada, who have a difficult assignment in Croatia.

Spain vs Germany

Ok, it’s the big one.

Germany must beat a scintillating Spain at Al Bayt Stadium to keep knockout stage ambitions alive.

This, astonishingly, will feel familiar to Germany having been dumped out of the group stage in 2018 after a loss to South Korea.

Hansi Flick’s side look disjointed despite having dominated a frenetic match for large spells, and ultimately couldn’t capitalise.

Spain had no trouble in capitalising against Costa Rica, seven times in fact.

The 2010 World Cup champions were irresistible with the likes of Gavi and Pedri pulling the strings and no recognised striker.

Croatia vs Canada

As mentioned, Canada were desperately unlucky not to get anything against Belgium in their opener.

But if you miss chances you will be punished at this level.

Canada missed a penalty through Alphonso Davies, and out of their 22 efforts – only three were on target.

Their direct and attacking style of play will likely be a welcome change for Croatia, who struggled against the Morocco’s defensive unit.

Luka Modric and Co. have the ability to play through the lines and should make it count on Sunday.

Belgium vs Morocco

Well they can’t be any worse… Many were surprised by Belgium’s lacklustre display against Canada.

But ever the optimist, manager Roberto Martinez was pleased with his side snatching a 1-0 victory while playing poorly.

There’s no doubt Belgium have plenty more gears left to shift, but Morocco aren’t the ideal side to do that against.

Well-drilled Morocco drew 0-0 with Croatia, who dominated possession but were unable to create opportunities or cause many problems.

Whether or not that says more about Croatia we’ll see, but it could be another difficult day at the office for Belgium.

Japan vs Costa Rica

Japan and their much-loved supporters will be virtually assured a place in the knockout stages with victory over Costa Rica.

And they’ll fancy their chances given their heroic display against Germany.
