I tried my mom’s old clothes from when she was a performer – the black shimmy dress was extremely short
PLAYING dress-up with your parents’ old clothes is always a fun experiment.
When your mom is a famous performer with an extensive stage wardrobe, raiding her closet is even better.
Téja Wallen has a considerable audience on TikTok, with 117k followers – and not all of them know her mom is a celebrity.
Wallen’s mom is singer and TV presenter Jamelia, who UK audiences may know from her hit single Superstar or other award-winning songs from her music career.
When Wallen broke out her mom’s old outfits for a dress-up session, her followers couldn’t wait to see the iconic ensembles back in action.
“Today I’m going to be trying on my mom’s old performance outfits,” Wallen said, posing in front of her mother’s closet.

“We’ll start with the little black shimmy dress, which was extremely short,” Wallen said, dancing to shake the fringe.
Grimacing at the screen, Wallen was clearly uncomfortable with the ultra-high hemline. “I’m not sure where she went in this,” she said.
Next, Wallen sported a white, ruched, spaghetti-strap dress, which gave her a chance to name-drop.
“The little Dolce and Gabbana dress was really, really giving me Gossip Girl vibes,” she said, admiring her image on camera. “I really liked it.”

Unfortunately, the next outfit didn’t get the same reaction out of Wallen.
“We had this little Strictly Come Dancing shimmy-shimmy,” she said, modeling the teal drop-waist dress for the camera.
“I was having fun in it, but it just really wasn’t cute,” Wallen lamented.
She tried striking a few poses but just couldn’t find her rhythm in the outfit. “Yeah, no,” she concluded.
But Wallen still had plenty of outfits to try.
She pulled on a henley-neck minidress and made an unexpected confession to her viewers.
“Then we had this black dress, which I’ve definitely stolen for my wardrobe before,” she said.
Even though the dress wasn’t new to her, it deserved a moment in the spotlight.
Next, Wallen was surprised and delighted to make a discovery. She found her mom’s old polka-dot dress, which had a floaty skirt and spaghetti straps.
Twirling in the dress, Wallen grinned, saying the outfit was “right up my street.”
“I had a great time, I thought it was so cute and I’m definitely going to wear it again,” she said.
The last piece she tried on was a jumpsuit, which was cool, but not Wallen’s style.
She said the practical pantsuit was “giving me very much Aunt Viv,” in reference to a character from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
Her verdict was identical to the one she’d handed down for the teal shimmy dress. “Yeah, no,” Wallen ruled.
