Urgent motorway warning as drivers face fines over crucial rule – here’s how to avoid being caught out
A URGENT motorway warning has been issued as drivers are facing fines over a simple, yet crucial rule.
Traffic cops are reminding motorists that a red ‘X’ means a lane is closed – and not to drive in there.
They said the warning comes after more than 100 cars ignored the signs, while police were trying to deal with a three-car smash.
And, as a result, all those rule breakers will be being slapped with fines and points, Central Motorway Police Group said.
The crash unfolded on the M6 in Staffordshire yesterday, and police said the red ‘X’ was in place as there was danger ahead.
And those that ignored the signs will now pay the consequences.
Writing on Twitter, CMPG said: “To those obeying the red ‘X’ M6 J14-J13 thank you!
“For the 100+ vehicles that didn’t bother, expect a letter in the post with some points and a fine attached.
“Red ‘X’ means lane closed, probably because someone is in danger!”
An urgent warning has today been issued over a Bank Holiday washout – as torrential rain and snow thaw to flood homes and spark travel misery.
It comes after motorists were urged to check their cars for a common issue after the festive season.
Drivers have also recently been warned they could be prosecuted for stopping on a motorway hard shoulder in an emergency.
