Horror CCTV shows woman being dragged to her death for an HOUR over six miles after in mystery New Year’s Day crash
HORRIFIC CCTV has revealed that a woman was dragged to her death for an hour on New Year’s Day after a tragic car crash.
Anjali Singh’s body was pulled along behind the car that collided with her as she rode her scooter back from work in the early hours of January 1 for around six miles.
Anjali, a 20-year-old events manager, was reportedly riding her scooter in Delhi, India when the horror crash occurred.
CCTV footage, which The Sun has chosen not to release, has emerged showing her body being dragged behind the car that hit her.
Local police say that the driver of the car, occupied by five men in their 20s, kept driving for miles.
According to a report from The Indian Express, Anjali was pulled along the road for almost an hour from around 2.30am, while at least five emergency calls were made to police by witnesses.
An eyewitness told the publication: “It was horrible. I was outside my shop when I heard a noise and saw the body being dragged under the car.
“I shouted at the accused but nobody stopped. They were taking U-turns. I called police and chased the men but they were playing loud music.”
Anjali’s family have alleged that she was sexually assaulted because her body was discovered naked, but the police post-mortem report said that there was “no injury suggestive” of this.
Delihi police official Sagar Preet Hooda said that the provisional cause of death was “shock and haemorrhage due to injury to the head, spine, left femur and both lower limbs.”
All five men are in police custody, charged with culpable homicide and causing death by negligence.
The force confirmed that the accused had claimed they borrowed the car from a friend and had sped off in a panic after hitting Anjali, without realising her body was being dragged behind them.
The accused men have said that they did not hear her screams over their loud music, while there have been suggestions in the media that they were drunk.
Cops are being helped in their investigation by a woman who was riding pillion on Anjali’s scooter, who had fled the scene in fear.
India’s Home Minister, Amit Shah, has ordered Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora to carry out an inquiry into the police response to the crash.
Road accidents are common in India, but this case has attracted widespread attention due to its gruesome nature and the fact it happened on a night where Delhi police had 18,000 officers on patrol in the city.
It comes just days after Indian cricket superstar Risabh Pant was “lucky to survive” a fiery crash while driving his Mercedes GLE in his home country.
Pant’s car flipped multiple times and caught fire, but the popular wicketkeeper escaped with non life-threatening injuries.
