Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that signing a centre-back and an attacking player are bigger priorities for Tottenham in January than a right wing-back.
Football.London’s Alasdair Gold said last Thursday that Antonio Conte has asked the Spurs hierarchy to sign another attacking player and a right wing-back during this month’s transfer window.

The journalist suggested that the North London club are likely to put off strengthening in central defence until next summer’s transfer window.
Sporting Lisbon’s Pedro Porro appears to be Tottenham’s top target for the right wing-back role (The Athletic) but there have been mixed reports regarding the Lilywhites’ pursuit of the 23-year-old over recent days.
The Daily Star reported over the weekend that Conte’s men are close to completing a £35m deal for the Sporting Lisbon star but Sky Sports revealed on Monday that Spurs have cooled their interest in the player after the Portuguese club asked them to pay his £40m release clause.
Jones has now said that he would be surprised if Tottenham moved for a right wing-back first, revealing that he has been informed that a centre-back is a bigger priority for the club.
The journalist told GiveMeSport: “There are a few factors that make me question whether he would be a priority. Everything I hear, it’s a forward creative player or a centre-back rather than a right-sided wing-back. I’m not going to rule it out, but I’d be surprised if that was accelerated ahead of everything else.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Gold’s information is certainly more reliable than Jones’, given the connections that the former has at Spurs. Conte’s statement following the draw against Brentford on Boxing Day also seemed to suggest that the Italian is happy to put off signing a centre-back until the summer, and is prioritising additions in other areas of the pitch.
