SL won the toss and elected to bowl first. Team India got a good start as Ishan Kishan smashed 17 runs in the first over itself but after that, they lost wickets in quick succession. Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson departed on low scores. Hardik Pandya (29) and Ishan Kishan (37) looked good but they couldn’t anchor the innings. However, Deepak Hooda (41) and Axar Patel (31) joined a crucial and blazing 68 runs partnership in the end and helped Team India reach a fighting total of 162 runs.
The total was fighting but not good enough for Wankhede’s pitches. Team India were without their ace pacer Arshdeep Singh and they needed to defend a low score. Shivam Mavi didn’t disappoint and gave SL early breakthroughs. Team India constantly got breakthroughs and pushed SL on backfoot.
