Infrastructure and Big Government
Today the FAA disrupted the travel of thousands of well-meaning air travelers as the NOTAM system failed.
BTW I believe that the term NOTAM use to be short for 'Notice to Air Men'
I see it now refers to 'Notice to Air Mission'. Not sure when (or if this change) occurred. At least that was how it was referenced in articles that I read. Now I know there are plenty of women (maybe for diversity's sake we'll toss in a few trans its') in the field of aviation and that may explain the change in terms. I'm OK with it ... just something I only recently noticed.
I hope Pete gets on this quickly and investigates this failure of the Air Traffic Transportation System and levies fines as appropriate.
The FAA if one remembers was also involved in the lax compliance oversite of Boeing 737 disaster. Yes, Boeing convinced the FAA that it was OK for Boeing itself to determine airworthiness but heh what is the FAA charter mean anyway?
It would be like the Dow Jones Industrial companies convincing the IRS that heh don't worry we will take the burden off your shoulders let us self certify that we are paying what we owe.. :eek:
But there are two very similar issues with both the FAA (and its Traffic Control system) and the IRS ... both have computer systems that are way past their life cycle. Let alone what software they are able to run.
Seems to me that the best thing the Biden admin could do is assign K Harris as point on these two issues to start with.
I have to think that most of the budgetary monies that go into these government services go toward personnel and salary increases rather than the actual purchase of hardware, equipment and software.
More people dependent on their livelihood the better for a voting block.
I wonder what other infrastructure is being compromised?
And yes I know there was a huge upward amount of money that is suppose to be directed toward the issue of American Infrastructure but will it turn out like Obama's shovel ready program?
Around my parts they took a stretch of 2 lane road and made it a divided 4 lanes added flowers in the median and kept the speed limit at 35 mph. In which case most people now go 45 to 50 mph ...
