Qatar Foreign Affairs Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.

On Tuesday, 17 January, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs-Qatar tweeted a short video of External Minister of Qatar Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani while talking at the World Economic Forum, directly warning about what happened recently by the Taliban government in Afghanistan.

Qatar has had a lengthy relationship with the Taliban. Since the beginning of the 2010s, senior Taliban figures have been based in Doha, Qatar. Opening an office to promote political reconciliation between the Taliban, the former Afghan government, the US, and other countries.

As early as 2013, Qatar allowed the Taliban to open an office in Doha. According to DW, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, one of the Taliban’s founding members, has served as the Taliban envoy since 2018 in the Qatar office.

The current policies of the IEA, particularly about the ban on Afghan women’s education, and women staff working with international communities and organizations, have created a considerable reaction in Muslim countries and international communities.

The Al Thani remarks also came after the recent decision by the interim administration in Afghanistan.

He commented, “What happened recently and the recent measures by the Taliban government in Afghanistan has been very disappointing for us”.

Moreover, he added, “we have been warning them (the Taliban government) from taking such decisions that will make the situation much worse for the Afghan people and the International community to deal with them.”

The UNAMA also issued a press release indicating that a group of delegations arrived in Kabul on January 17 to discuss the situation in the country and to promote and protect women’s and girls’ rights, peaceful coexistence, work and public life in Afghanistan.
